The Republican Base.

I've been popping in to littlegreenfootballs for years just to get a taste of what the Republican base is saying. Here's a taste for you. Hold your nose.

If you look through the rest of the site, you will find stunning examples of racism and misogyny. Strangely, the only minority not abused is the Jews. Republicans say anti-semitism now belongs to the Dems since they've kicked Lieberman out of the party.

A lot happens in 45 years.

An email I saw posted on one of the listserves I belong to, Women, Action, and Media. It's from the Republican Black National Organization and works hard to twist up MLK's legacy into a Republican mandate by painting inappropriate Obama's use of the occasion to celebrate his nomination.

Thanks to the Clintons and other forces over the past few decades, the Democratic party has shifted further and further to the right. Obama's "most liberal voting record in the Senate" means very little. Look at his embrace of religion in this campaign for instance.

Discussions of equality by the civil rights movement 45 years ago certainly didn't include issues like abortion or same-sex marriage. Who knows what MLK would say about these issues. I would like to think that if he lived and died to make civil rights for all Americans possible, that includes women and the LGBT community.

With the schizophrenic (and running scared) republicans painting Obama as elitist and "angry black", over-educated and inexperienced, communist and yet unwilling to take care of his brother George in Kenya, one wonders how so many voters can keep up with what to believe. The dissonance is deafening.

If Obama's not MLK's dream, which I rather agree with, certainly they can't mean that John McCain is. Regardless I find their denial of the significance of this event, the nomination of the first African American candidate for President of the United States, to be despicable.

OBAMA IS NOT MLK'S DREAM!
Press Release Contact: Frances Rice August 28, 2008
1-866-905-6701Forty-five years ago, on August 28, 1963,

The Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. who was a Republican and embraced the traditional values that made this country great delivered his inspirational civil rights "I Have a Dream" speech.
Today, Senator Barack Obama, with the most liberal voting record in the US Senate, is delivering his political acceptance speech, in an apparent attempt to assume for himself the mantle of Dr. Martin Luther King.
Dr. King did not embrace the type of secularist agenda promoted by Obama and the Democratic Party of today, which includes fostering dependency on welfare that breaks up families, supporting same-sex marriage and partial-birth abortion, and banning God from the public square.
Obama is no MLK!
